JASON SHAW Jr, MA, LCPC, Clinical Supervisor

Nearly five years into clinical work I continue to grow and become more passionate about the work I
do with people. My clinical expertise includes assisting people with navigating cultural and systemic
oppression, exploring their racial identity, exploration of gender identity, and LGBTQ issues. I also
specialize in addressing a myriad of anxieties, often socio-economic anxiety, as well as general
anxiety.

My work recognizes the impact society and systems have on our mental health and I am dedicated to
supporting people to better understand those impacts and explore ways to navigate spaces by utilizing their support systems and other resources available to them. It is important to me for people to be fully autonomous people who can advocate for themselves within systems that may not be made for them through the work of liberation.

That work also shows up when I work with individuals who are experiencing depression, working
through life transitions, self-esteem troubles, and couples work. Utilizing many behavioral modalities
to help individuals navigate relationships and foster healthy connections, communication, and
boundaries.

In my role as a therapist, I acknowledge the impossible task of separating my other identities within my work. I show up carrying with me my own story and because of it, I am aware of the work needing to be done to ensure comfortability, safety, and vulnerability for the people I work with. I bring a sense of vulnerability and passion in my work with people that I hope allows them to connect more with
themselves and feel empowered.

Every individual has their own story and unique challenges and I tailor the work that we do around their stories. I am thankful to be a part of their journey to empowerment and I do my best to tailor the
therapeutic goals to their needs based on their stories.

In addition to direct therapeutic work with participants, I provide clinical supervision and Continuing
Education (CE) training for mental health professionals in the field. I also lead monthly DEIB
trainings/discussions within AMK.
