Reese McCormick, MSW, LSW
My personal journey as an international adoptee in a transracial family profoundly shapes my collaborative approach and passion for intersectional identity work. I understand the complexities of self-expression and identity, which drives my dedication to providing mental health services to the LGBTQ+ community, BIPOC individuals, adoptees, and other marginalized groups, drawing on my previous work with these communities. I am committed to addressing the stigma surrounding mental health in these populations and am particularly passionate about supporting both domestic and international adoptees, as well as the parents and soon-to-be parents of adopted children.
With experience working in a CPS high school, I have provided direct services to students facing a range of challenges, including trauma, various forms of abuse, anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicidal ideation, eating disorders, and self-esteem issues. My background includes crisis management, where I’ve developed skills to support individuals in high-stress situations. I also have some experience in family therapy and a growing interest in couples therapy, recognizing the importance of relational dynamics in mental health.
My clinical approach is integrative and holistic, drawing from a trauma-informed lens and evidence-based methods, including:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Mindfulness-Based Therapy
- Trauma-Informed Therapy
- Family Therapy
- Psychodynamics
- Narrative Therapy
- Solution-Focused Therapy
I specialize in areas such as anxiety, eating disorders, life transitions, identity exploration, depression, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and anger management. I firmly believe in collaborating with my clients and meeting them where they are, fostering a safe, judgment-free environment where individuals of all identities and beliefs can feel comfortable, supported, and challenged. Through our work together, I aim to empower clients to explore their identities, navigate challenges, and cultivate resilience, all while creating a therapeutic space that honors each person’s unique experiences and perspectives. Ultimately, my goal is to support clients in their journey toward self-discovery and personal growth.
